Some of the key benefits:

  • Silk proteins (or peptides) help coat the hair shaft and fill in micro‑gaps in the cuticle, improving smoothnessreflective shine, and overall manageability.

  • They aid in moisture retention and elasticity of hair fibre (even if hair is oil‑prone at the scalp, the lengths can still benefit from better internal structure).

  • The silk‑based actives are non‑occlusive (i.e., they allow the scalp/hair to “breathe” rather than being heavy, which is important when roots tend to get oily).

  • For oily or normal‑to‑oily scalps, you still want good cleansing + scalp balance; a silk‑protein shampoo system can offer that dual benefit: cleanse + treat.

  • A well‑formulated conditioner can help lengths and ends without overly weighing down the roots, which is key when the scalp is oil‑prone.

Ingredients:

  • Hydrolyzed silk protein / silk peptides / fibroin / sericin These are broken‑down from silk to smaller peptides/amino acids. They bind/co‑at the hair shaft, fill in damage, improve smoothness and shine.
  • Keratin amino acids Provide structural support and help rebuild hair fibre strength.
  • Humectants Pull water into hair shaft, add softness, manageability.
  • Lightweight oils & botanical extracts Provide nourishment, shine, and possibly soothing benefits.
  • Cleansing surfactants Remove excess sebum, oil, residues — crucial for scalp health.

How to use:

Here’s a recommended usage protocol tailored for normal to oily hair with a silk‑protein shampoo + conditioner system:

  • Pre‑wash/Prep (optional):
If you’ve used a lot of styling products or oils at the scalp, you might start with a brief rinse or light non‑protein cleanse to remove surface buildup.

  • Wet hair thoroughly:
Use lukewarm water (not super hot), which helps open cuticle slightly and mobilise scalp oil/sebum.

  • Shampoo:

    • Apply the shampoo mainly at the scalp and roots, which is where oil and buildup accumulate.

    • Massage gently (~30‑60 seconds) to stimulate circulation and help loosen oil/residue.

    • Work the lather down the hair lengths (this helps clean the shaft).

    • If the product suggests a double pass (first to remove surface oil, second for deeper cleanse), you can do that—especially if your scalp is quite oily or you skip washes sometimes. Many oil‑prone routines use two‑pass shampooing.

    • Rinse thoroughly — leftover residue can attract oil or weigh down hair.

  • Conditioner:

    • Use a lightweight conditioner with silk‑protein benefits.

    • Apply primarily to mid‑lengths and ends (unless the product specifically says safe for scalp) to avoid adding extra product/layer at oily roots.

    • Leave on per instructions (1‑2 mins or as indicated).

    • Rinse thoroughly. A final cool or lukewarm water rinse can help close the cuticle and may slow oil appearance.

  • Post‑wash styling & maintenance:

    • Gently towel‑blot or squeeze excess water, avoid harsh rubbing which can stimulate the scalp.

    • Use lightweight styling products (especially at roots) if you want volume or oil‑control.

    • If you blow‑dry, use moderate heat and nozzle to direct air at roots/make sure the scalp finishes dry (damp scalp can accelerate oiliness).

    • Clean your brushes/combs regularly—oil accumulates there and can redeposit on your scalp/hair.
