Benefits:

  • Silk‑derived proteins help strengthen hair fibres and improve elasticity, making the lengths and mid‑shaft healthier and less prone to breakage.

  • They help smooth the cuticle layer, reducing roughness or frizz, improving shine and manageability. One example product states: “intensely smoothes and actively moisturises hair cuticles … leaves hair soft and shiny.”

  • For a scalp that tends toward oil, improving the condition of the lengths means you can focus more on lightweight cleansing at the root while still treating the rest of the hair. A silk mask can help the lengths look and feel clean, smooth and healthy, while you keep root treatment lighter.

  • Silk proteins have good moisture‑binding and film‑forming properties, which means when used properly they can protect the hair from environmental stress (pollution, heat) and reduce the appearance of dullness.

Ingredients:

  • Hydrolyzed silk protein (INCI: Hydrolyzed Silk / Silk Amino Acids / Silk Peptides)Provides small protein fragments that can bind to hair, fill micro‑gaps in the cuticle, improve strength, smoothness and shine. makingcosmetics.com+1
Note: With oily scalp you want this in the lengths/shaft rather than focussing heavily on the scalp, to avoid extra build‑up.

  • Panthenol (Pro‑Vitamin B5)Humectant, improves hair manageability and shine, helps retain moisture in the shaft. Good for lengths; ensure it doesn’t sit heavy at the scalp where oil can accelerate.

  • Light oils / emollients (e.g., sunflower seed oil, olive oil) Nourish and smooth the hair, improve gloss and softness. For oily scalp hair, avoid concentrated heavy oil at or near the roots—apply mostly mid‑lengths to ends.

  • Cuticle‑closing / smoothing agents (e.g., silicones, film‑formers, low pH formula) Help flatten the hair scales (cuticle) so hair looks smooth, less frizzy, and reflects more light. Example: a product says “low pH, which closes hair scales and regenerates hair from the root to the end.” Make sure rinsing is thorough so that the scalp doesn’t accumulate residue which could make it look more oily or heavy.

How to Use:

  • After shampooing — Use your usual shampoo (preferably one formulated for normal‑to‑oily scalp). Rinse thoroughly.

  • Towel‑blast lightly / T‑shirt‑dry — Remove excess water from hair so the mask doesn’t get diluted too much.

  • Apply the silk mask

    • Take an appropriate amount of mask (check product instructions).

    • Focus from mid‑length to ends of hair. If your scalp is oily, avoid applying a heavy layer directly at the scalp unless the mask product is designed for scalp treatment.

    • Gently distribute with fingers or a wide‑tooth comb for even coverage.

  • Processing time

    • Leave on for the manufacturer’s recommended time 5 minutes.

  • Rinse thoroughly

    • Use lukewarm water first, then optionally cooler water to help close cuticles.

    • Ensure no visible residue remains, especially at the scalp/hairline.

  • Dry & style

    • Gently blot away excess water; avoid aggressive rubbing at the scalp which might stimulate oil production.

    • Use lightweight styling products and avoid heavy oils at the roots.

    • For oily scalp, you might skip any heavy leave‑in at the root, focusing instead on lengths and ends.

  • Frequency of use

    • For normal scalp: once a week may suffice.

    • For oily scalp: you might use the mask every 10‑14 days or when your lengths feel in need of extra care (rather than every wash) so that the scalp isn’t burdened with heavy product too often.

    • Maintain your regular cleansing schedule for the scalp; use the mask more as a lengths/shaft treatment rather than scalp‑heavy.
