Does nails breath? No they don't!

The reality is that nails do not actually "breathe," as they receive their nutrients and oxygen from the blood stream and not the air, according to board certified dermatologist and nail specialist Dr. Dana Stern.

Now that we have that out of the way. We knew you love your artificial nails and you want to know if you need to take a break from them not to give them air but is it bad to wear artificial nails for month on months or even permanently?

We get a lot of clients coming in to get their nails done to strengthen their nails. Just so that they can come in once their nails are grown to their desire length then they want to come in to get a soak off because their nails is now strong enough.

But did you know? Artificial product will slightly soften your natural nail plate and there is clients who's nails are naturally soft and brittle.

Now they are here for a soak,(file off) I always ask the question why do you want to soak off your nails? They always reply they want to give their nails a break and in a few month they will come back and get them done again.

My question is then, why do you want to soak off your artificial nails and then leave your nails naked and with no strength on? Isn't it why you have done your nails in the first place, to let your nails grow and so that they can be strong? Now you just want to soak off everything and have no strength to protect your long beautiful nails?

"To paint a clearer picture of how nails work, the dermatologist suggests envisioning the cells that make up the nail as fish scabs layer over layers.

These layers are made of protein, specifically keratin, just like our hair, These cells are very delicate and can become damaged with prolonged exposure to certain chemicals.

The most common chemical culprit of nail damage is acetone. A strong solvent that is usually used to remove polish, acetone dries these delicate onychocytes causing them to separate, split, peel and break," - Huffpost

No as explained above your nails breaks down because of acetone! So technically avoid acetone completely. So if your nails is weak or brittle and you don't want to invest to help your nails looking healthy and strong forever. Then the answer is don't ever get artificial product on your nails. I will explain it now.

Artificial nails is artificial, we are not born with them. Are they bad for you natural nail plate? No, they are not if you visit a salon which gives you proper care , maintenance, aftercare and removal procedure. Your nails will be fine. But if you want to get your nails done and then remove them once they are the desire length that you want. Now that is a problem. Artificial nails will soften your nails once you remove them. Number one most artificial nails needs to be removed with acetone and by now you know that is the one product that damages your nails the most. Number 2 if you naturally have brittle and soft nails it will not change because its how your nails is.

So you have two options :

  1. Invest in getting your nails done regular

  2. Don't ever get any artificial product on your nails

Benefits of artificial product on your nails:

  • Long lasting

  • Numerous design options

  • Natural looking

  • Prevent nail biting

  • Protect weak nails

  • Avoid breaking the natural nail

That's why we have invested in Di'PolyGel a product that does not require acetone and its actual benefiting for your nails because its a non soak-able product. But this is a blog on it's own , continuing.

I'm sure you have done Acrylic or a UV gel?

Acrylic:

Acrylic nails are made out of acrylic glass(PMMA). When it is mixed with a liquid monomer it forms a malleable bead. This mixture begins to cure immediately, continuing until completely solid in minutes.

Gel nails:

Gel nails can be used to create artificial nail extensions, but can also be used like nail polish. They are hardened using a ultraviolet light.

Well most of these artificial products needs to be soaked off and usually trend to break if its not properly applied and can also feel heavy on your nail plate.

Nails don't always have to look arty and with a colourful design.

You can also get artificial nails done after you have done them they looks like your own nails and once it grow out it will still look like you own nails and you wont be able to see your regrowth.

Try our my own brand it is called, Di'PolyGel which will help you to walk about 2 month with no maintenance and once it grows out it doesn't look like you have any product on.

The final question is.

Are you going to protect your nails with a artificial product or never ever get an artificial set done. It's up to you, but there is just more benefits on having a artificial set on especially if you find the right product that works for you.
